Friday I attended the funeral of Phil Fox. The church was packed with his family, friends and the great and good of Leicester and Leicestershire. There was a very moving tribute to Phil by one of his daughters. In the Hilton afterwards at the buffet the family showed pictures of Phil with his family and friends on a large screen. You could not help but be moved and at times laugh out loud at the photos.
Phil was a good man, a kind man. Labour through and through but the sort of Labour that cares for the community and those weak and vulnerable in that community.
I met him when I first became involved in politics in Leicestershire. He took me under his wing and for a while he and I as Secretary and Chair ran the Leicestershire County Labour Party. I shall miss the squeeze on my elbow and the word ‘brother’ as he would attract my attention or whisper a few words in my ear.
A man who we will all miss, my heart goes out to Jo, his family and friends.
